Introduction
Tailored Trainer is a science-backed app designed to help you lose fat, build muscle, and transform your physique. We helped transform the product from a stagnant codebase into a fast-improving, user-friendly app with a strong growth trajectory. By stabilizing the foundation, improving the UX, and adding high-impact features, we positioned the app to scale- and gave Tailored Trainer the technical support to push the product forward with confidence.

The Challenge
When I joined the project, the lead developer was transitioning out, leaving behind a product with several unresolved customer experience issues—many of which required nuanced, low-level fixes to get right. At the same time, Cody, the CEO of the Tailored Coaching Method, had bigger plans. He wanted to scale the app, refine the user experience, and introduce key features like in-app sharing, detailed exercise metrics, and an overall smoother UX. To grow, the app needed technical members who could dive deep, clean up the foundation, and accelerate new development without compromising stability.
How we Helped
We jumped in quickly, first addressing the critical usability concerns by implementing advanced mobile behaviors like full state restoration, ensuring users could pick up exactly where they left off across sessions and app restarts. This significantly improved consistency and trust in the app’s flow. From there, we worked closely with Cody to prioritize meaningful improvements—both to the product and its presence in the app ecosystem. - We helped grow the app’s user rating from around 3.7 to over 4.3 (September 2025) on the App Store by addressing pain points in the UX and enhancing performance across devices. We also supported the launch of a freemium version, reducing the barrier to entry and driving broader adoption. On the growth side, we improved App Store metadata to increase visibility and discoverability, and introduced new features that added real value for users—including social sharing capabilities and more detailed tracking of exercise and wellness data. Our approach balanced stability, growth, and long-term flexibility—allowing the app to evolve without regression or user disruption.
